Configuring Risks module settings
Who is this article for?Site Administrators who want to customise the configuration for Risks.
Site Admin permissions are required.
Risks module settings let you set up code formats for created Risks, to make referring to them easier. This guide will take you through the steps on how to do that.

1. Risks Settings view
To access Risks settings:
- Open the Go To... menu.
- Hover over 'Site Admin' at the bottom of the menu.
- Select 'Risks Settings' (under 'Module Setup').
Once there, you should be presented with this page:
You can make all required changes from this view!
2. Risks Settings
Creating Code Formatting
To set up Code Formatting:
- Open the Risks Settings view.
- Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'Manage'.
You will be taken to the Code Formatting list. - Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'New Code Format'.
You'll be prompted to enter the title and number format in the pop-up. - Click 'Save & Close'.
Below is a list of symbols you can use in the 'Number Format' field to set up your code.
| Symbol | Effect |
|---|---|
| 0 | Output data will have as many digits as number of zeroes used in the mask. For example, if you've entered 00000 in your format and have the number 123 in your data, it will display as 00123. |
| # | Output data will not show unnecessary zeroes. |
| . (dot) | Output data will show a decimal point in this space. |
| £ | Output data will show the £ sign in this space. |
| % or '%' | Output data will show the % sign in this space. |
| + or - | Output data will show the + or - symbol in this space. For example, +##.00 will make the number 123.4 show as +123.40. |
| ' (single quote) | Enables you to use # and ' within your format. For example, '#'##.00 applied to 123.4 will give you #123.40. |
Editing Code Formatting
To edit a Code Format:
- Open the Risks Settings view.
- Select the hyperlinked Title of the Code Format you want to edit.
You can also access the option from the 'Manage' screen. - Enter a new name or create a new format.
- Click 'Save & Close'.
Duplicating Code Formatting
To duplicate a Code Format:
- Open the Risks Settings view.
- Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'Manage'.
You will be taken to the Code Formatting list. - Highlight the item row for the Format you want to administer.
- Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'Duplicate'.
You'll be prompted to confirm whether you want to carry out the selected action. - Click 'Duplicate'.
For clarity, we also recommend you change the name of the Code Format from 'Copy of Code Format Name'.
Deleting Code Formatting
To duplicate a Code Format:
- Open the Risks Settings view.
- Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'Manage'.
You will be taken to the Code Formatting list. - Highlight the item row for the Format you want to administer.
- Click 'Code Formatting▼'.
- Select 'Delete'.
You'll be prompted to confirm whether you want to carry out the selected action. - Click 'Delete'.
Creating Risk Types
To create an Risk Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Click 'Risk Types▼'.
- Select 'Manage'. You will be taken to the Risk Types list.
- Click 'Risk Types▼'.
- Select 'New Risk Type'.
You'll be prompted to enter the title, description, and select an icon for your Risk Type. - Click 'Save & Close'.
Existing Risk records without a Risk Type will automatically link to the default Risk Type option.
From this view, you can add Ownerships of the Risk Type, determine which Risk that fall under it, and set up the First Tab for that specific Risk Type.

To add Default Ownerships:
- Click 'Default Ownerships▼'
- Choose Ownership type.
- Enter the name of the User you'd like to add.
- Click 'Search'.
- Tick the box next to each User want to add.
- Click 'Add Users/Roles'
Risk Reports and Classic creation for Risk do not have the Risk Type field and will be assigned to the default Risk Type. You can change this by editing the Risk Type in Browser.
Editing Risk Types
To edit an Risk Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Select the hyperlinked Title of the Outcome you want to edit.
You will be taken to the Risk Types list. - Click 'Risk Type Name▼'.
- Select 'Edit'.
- Enter a new name, description, or select a new icon.
- Click 'Save & Close'.
This will not change the Default Ownerships or Risks in this Risk Type settings.

To edit Default Ownerships:
- Click 'Ownership Type▼'.
- Select 'Remove Owners' or 'Remove All'.
You will be prompted to confirm which Owners need to be removed in the pop-up.
Adding Risks to Risk Type
To add Risk:
- Click 'Risks in this Risk Type▼'.
- Select 'Move Risk into this Risk Type'.
- Select the Risk you want to move.
Your list will refresh, and you should now see the Risk (and any Sub-Risks) listed.
Risk Type First Tab
To edit the First Tab:
- Click 'First Tab▼'.
- Select 'Edit'.
- Add panels using the dropdown.
- Update the layout of the First Tab for that Risk Type.
- Click 'Save & Close'.
No longer need a panel?
Removing panels from the First Tab setup won't remove added records. If a panel is added back in, it will display all the relevant records again.
Duplicating or deleting Risk Types
To duplicate or delete a Risk Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Click 'Risk Types▼'.
- Select 'Manage'. You will be taken to the Risk Types list.
- Highlight the Risk Type you want to duplicate on the left.
- Click 'Risk Types▼'.
- Select 'Duplicate' or 'Delete'.
You'll be prompted to confirm whether you want to carry out the selected action. - Click 'Duplicate' or 'Delete' to confirm.
Not seeing the 'Delete' option?
Make sure that you are not looking at the default Risk Type! It cannot be deleted.
Enabling/Disabling Risk Matrix
- Open the Risks Settings view.
- Click 'Risk Matrix▼'.
By default, Risk Matrix is enabled. - Select 'Edit'.
- Untick 'Allow Risk Matrix' to disable it.
- Click 'Save & Close'.
Once disabled, the box and hyperlink displayed on the Assessment page is are no longer interactable. This means that Users can only rate the Risk using the selection from the dropdown menu.

3. Internal Controls Settings
Creating Internal Controls Types
To create an Internal Control Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Select 'Internal Controls' from the menu on the left.
- Click 'Internal Control Types▼'.
- Select 'Manage'. You will be taken to the Internal Types list.
- Click 'Internal Control Types▼'.
- Select 'New Internal Control Type'.
You'll be prompted to enter the title, description, and select an icon for your Internal Control Type. - Click 'Save & Close'.
Existing Internal Control records without an Internal Control Type will automatically link to the default Internal Control Type option.
From this view, you can add Ownerships of the Internal Control Type and determine which Controls fall under it.

To add Default Ownerships:
- Click 'Default Ownerships▼'
- Choose Ownership type.
- Enter the name of the User you'd like to add.
- Click 'Search'.
- Tick the box next to each User want to add.
- Click 'Add Users/Roles'
Editing Internal Control Types
To edit an Internal Control Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Select 'Internal Controls' from the menu on the left.
- Choose the hyperlinked Title of the Outcome you want to edit.
You will be taken to the Internal Control Type list. - Click 'Internal Control Type Name▼'.
- Select 'Edit'.
- Enter a new name, description, or select a new icon.
- Click 'Save & Close'.
This will not change the Default Ownerships or Controls in this Internal Control Type settings.

- Click 'Ownership Type▼'.

Adding Controls to Internal Control Type
To add Risk:
- Click 'Internal Controls in this Internal Control Type▼'.
- Select 'Move Internal Control into this Internal Control Type'.
- Select the Controls you want to move.
Your list will refresh, and you should now see the Controls listed.
Duplicating or deleting Internal Control Types
To duplicate or delete an Internal Control Type:
- Open the Risk Settings view.
- Select 'Internal Controls' from the menu on the left.
- Click 'Internal Control Types▼'.
- Select 'Manage'. You will be taken to the Internal Control Types list.
- Highlight the Internal Control Type you want to duplicate on the left.
- Click 'Internal Control Types▼'.
- Select 'Duplicate' or 'Delete'.
You'll be prompted to confirm whether you want to carry out the selected action. - Click 'Duplicate' or 'Delete' to confirm.
Not seeing the 'Delete' option?
Make sure that you are not looking at the default Internal Control Type! It cannot be deleted.
