Visualising performance data with Charts
Who is this article for?Users who want to visualise data in Portals.
Chart_Create, Chart_Delete (+complex)or higher permissions are required.
Charts offer a variety of visuals for your performance data to help you investigate trends and relationships in your data. You can display them on Portals for easier access. This article will walk you through how to create and modify your charts.

1. Charts list
To access charts:
- Open the Go To... menu.
- Hover over 'Reporting'.
- Select 'Charts▼' (under 'Charts').
You will be taken to an overview page where you can view all charts currently available on your site.
2. Creating Charts
To create a chart:
- Open the Charts list.
- Click 'Charts▼'.
- Select 'New Charts'.
You will be asked to assign a name to it. - Click 'Save & Close'.
You will be taken to a 'Set up a new Chart' wizard that will walk you through each step in detail.
- Type Of Chart - Select one of the available Chart options. You will configure it later.
- Performance Indicator - Select Performance Indicator(s) to use as data.
- Appearance - Choose the visual for the chart. There are traditional (column, line, area) and radial (columns, lines) options to select from.
- Review And Confirm - Double check selections from the previous sections. If the wizard spots any issues in your setup, it will list them at the bottom of the page.
Once you are happy with the setup, click 'Create Chart'. You will be taken to the chart notebook where you can view all information related to it.
Created your Chart in Classic?
Classic charts can still be used in all modules where they are currently available, but they must still be edited in Classic.
3. Editing Charts
To edit a chart, open the Charts list and select the hyperlinked name of the chart you want to modify.
You will see several tabs, each containing different settings.

Set Up - Change data sources, classes, processors, and appearance on the chart.
Interact with any header displaying an arrow next to it '▼' to view the available options. - Options - Change the X-Axis and Y-Axis settings and modify the chart title or legend.
- Related To - Link items to the chart.
- More... - View Ownerships of the chart.
X-Axis and Y-Axis panels provide settings for labelling axis and ordering data series. The ‘Y-Axis’ panel also allows you to manually set the minimum and maximum values for the axis.
To reset a chart, click 'Chart Name▼' and select 'Reset Chart'. This will reset all appearance and data settings, while retaining linked item and Ownership information.
4. Duplicating Charts
To duplicate a chart:
- Open the Charts list.
- Right-click the chart you want to copy.
- Select 'Duplicate'.
You will be asked to name your new chart in the pop-up. - Click 'Duplicate'.
You will be taken to the duplicate Chart's notebook. It will retain all settings, ownerships, and links of the original.
Unsure if you're duplicating the right chart?
Select the hyperlinked name of a chart to review its notebook. Once you know this is the one you want to copy, click 'Chart Name▼' and select 'Duplicate'.
5. Deleting Charts
To delete a chart:
- Open the Charts list.
- Right-click the chart you want to delete.
- Select 'Delete'.
You will be asked to confirm the request. - Click 'Delete'.
Deleting a chart currently used in a Portal will result in the following error:

Select the hyperlinked name of a chart to review its notebook. Once you know this is the one you want to copy, click 'Chart Name▼' and select 'Delete'.
