Creating and customising polycharts
Who is this article for?Users who want to create a polychart for their performance data.
Chart_Create permissions are required.
Polychart groups Query results by the values of a wide range of fields to produce line and bar graphs. Additional options exist for processing dates and fields where large numbers are expected. This guide will walk you through how to create one to achieve a clear graphical representation of complex data in an instant.
In this article:
1. Setting up polycharts
Polycharts can be set up based on fields and items from the following modules:
- Actions
- Assessments
- Feedback
- Internal Controls
- Performance Indicators (PIs)
- Policies
- Risks
To create a polychart:
- Set up a Query results of which you want to display.
- Open a Portal you want to add the Chart to.
- Click the header and select 'Edit Layout'.
- Select 'Chart' (under 'New Component).
- Highlight the module you created the Query for in the list on the left.
- Choose 'Polychart'.
- Select the Query you created earlier from the pop-up.
You will see another pop-up where you can customise your chart.
2. Customising polycharts
Polycharts offer a variety of options to help you create the most effective visualisation for your Query.
- Type or choose a title - Select the dropdown to choose the between the title 'Polychart' or the title of your query. Alternatively, select the text box to input a custom title for the component.
-
Group results by - Determines the labels on the X-axis of the chart.
The options within this drop-down will be different for each module, but common fields such as 'Status', 'Ownership', 'Dates', and custom fields are available for all polycharts. -
Bars will show - By default, it's set to 'The number of individual items' which counts all items in the Group you selected in the 'Group results by' dropdown.
An example, of this, would be to count all items at each status. The other options will vary for each module, but they will all be a sum of the specified field, such as a total of sub-Actions at Red for Actions at Neglected Status. - Presentation - Choose between vertical bars, horizontal bars, and a line series.
- Frame colour - Select one of the seven colour options which will control the outline 'Frame' of the component.
Below is an example of a polychart created to count Actions by their Status, where each bar can be drilled down into. Whilst similar to the basic traffic light chart, it gives a more detailed overview of your Actions statues.
